This beach is enclosed by a huge rock and reef barrier that acts as a wall against the crashing ocean waves on the other side. Every so often, ways will splash up over the top creating tiny waterfalls throughout the whole thing.
It’s a pretty sight, but you don’t want to get too close to the rocks because once in awhile there will be a giant wave that reaches insane heights. Check out the video on the next page to see the whole thing. Would you want to visit this beach?
At around the 36 second mark, a giant wave crashes over completely taking over the rocks with a sheet of white. Despite the large size and sound of the crashing wave, people seem to be barely bothered by it.
The beach got it’s name as Vega Baja means ‘low plains’ in Spanish. Taino carvings can be found on some of the reefs that depict faces and fish suggesting that this area was used for spear fishing. Another interesting event was in 1990, over a million dollars was found in plastic barrels buried on the beach which may have been stashed by drug smugglers. The FBI was alerted after the sudden wealth of a few citizens.
Nature truly is fascinating and this is definitely a beach you should check out if you want to take a look at something that you don’t see everyday.
